How to become a pharmacy technician in Tennessee

Tennessee requires pharmacy technicians to register with the Board of Pharmacy. Certification is optional, but certified techs can take on more in the pharmacy, which makes you more valuable.

The 4 steps in Tennessee

  1. Get hired. New hires in Tennessee have up to 90 days from their start date to register.
  2. Register with the Board. Your application includes a signed affidavit from you and your employer, a fee, and a criminal background check.
  3. Get certified (optional, but it pays). Tennessee doesn't require national certification. Certified techs can do more in the pharmacy and aren't limited the same way on staffing ratios, so pharmacies value them.
  4. Keep it current. Renew your registration with the Board on schedule.
