How to become a pharmacy technician in Ohio

Foothills alone is not enough in Ohio. Ohio requires an approved training program, and Foothills is not ASHP-accredited. A current PTCB certification waives the classroom part of an employer program, but you still need 300 hours of supervised practical training, so please check with the Board before you pay for anything.

Heads up: our program alone is not enough in Ohio. Foothills alone is not enough. Ohio also requires 300 hours of employer training. We'd rather tell you now than have you pay and find out later.

The 5 steps in Ohio

  1. Register as a trainee. $40, valid 18 months. Age 17 or older with a diploma or GED, plus a background check.
  2. Get hired by a qualifying employer. Many chain pharmacies run employer-based programs.
  3. Pass the PTCE. This waives the classroom part. Foothills can help you prepare.
  4. Complete 300 supervised hours. Required even with PTCB certification.
  5. Register as certified. $65, renewed every 2 years.

Costs beyond Foothills in Ohio
