How to become a pharmacy technician in Florida
Florida requires a Board-approved training program. Under a rule effective August 6, 2026, PTCB-recognized programs like Foothills are preapproved. You still register with the Florida Board of Pharmacy, which costs about $105.
The 4 steps in Florida
- Take the Foothills course. Online, self-paced, about 4 months. Florida's rule ties preapproval to PTCB recognition as of July 1, 2025.
- Pass the PTCE. Florida does not require it, and it cannot replace the training program. Employers do prefer certified techs.
- Register with the Board. About $105: $50 application, $50 licensure, and $5 unlicensed activity fee. You must be 17 or older and disclose any criminal or disciplinary history.
- Renew every 2 years. About $55, with 20 hours of CE including 2 on medication errors and law.
Costs beyond Foothills in Florida
- About $105 state registration ($50 + $50 + $5)
- About $55 renewal every 2 years
